Rijkswaterstaat and RIVM, with the help of GeoCat, have been selected to receive funding from the 2025 Innovation Budget to enhance the open source tools GeoNetwork, GeoServer, and Bridge for QGIS.
Widely adopted across the Dutch government and powering platforms such as the European INSPIRE Geoportal, these tools will gain Data Spaces support, OGC API Records standards, enhanced DCAT metadata integration, and improved data discovery in QGIS. The project aims to implement an open-source connector that integrates GeoNetwork catalogs and GeoServer with the emerging Data Spaces infrastructure. It supports secure and seamless data sharing across organizations, businesses and citizens, at both EU and global levels, while enabling an intuitive search and discovery experience.
The Innovation Budget supports forward-thinking projects that help Dutch public sector organizations experiment with new ideas and develop initiatives to improve digital government services.
